ramsac warns web users about SOBER.P worm hidden in emails for the football worldcup 2006

ramsac, a leading IT solutions provider, today warns football fans in the Surrey area, of the latest mutation of the Sober.p worm. This new virus entices web users to download the worm by posing as a ticket confirmation email for the 2006 football World Cup, sent from the World Cup organising committee.  By downloading the infected ZIP attachment victims are allowing the virus to copy itself to their system directories and scan their machine for addresses to harvest.

Operations Director at ramsac, Dan May, offers the following advice to Surrey businesses, “Virus writers will continue to use topical hooks to ensure mass distribution and impact of each virus or worm. It is therefore important that web users ensure that they are cautious about opening emails from unfamiliar sources, to protect their computers from the ceaseless wave of new and mutated viruses. This particular virus has been found in both English and German and uses subject headers such as “WM-Ticket-Auslosung” and “Your password.” It is vital that all users ensure that their anti virus software is up to date to hamper the growth of this global problem.”
