ramsac, a leading IT solutions consultancy based in Surrey, was recently called on by the BBC for its expertise and comments on the government’s latest announcement that the right to request flexible working is to be extended to parents of children up to the age of 16.
ramsac’s Operations Director, Dan May, was invited by the producer of BBC Breakfast to appear live on the sofa alongside Bill Turnbull and Sian Williams on the morning of Thursday 15th May to discuss the implications for businesses, of the extension of an employees right to request flexible working.
Prior to the interview on BBC 1, Dan May was whisked off to the BBC Radio 5 Live studio to comment on how the extension will effect small to medium businesses in a live interview with 5 Live’s Breakfast show presenter, Nicky Campbell. The interview was then used on news bulletins throughout the day on BBC Radio 2.
During his interviews with the BBC, May made several points on the effects the extension may have on an organisation, “Flexible working and parental leave are excellent endeavours, however it is important that we maintain the interests of the employer as well. At ramsac we do everything we possibly can to ensure we support the family commitments of our employees and that we manage a healthy work-life balance, however a business can only be a good employer, if they are also a profitable business – a company that employs specialist staff often find it very hard to plug the gaps left my flexible working.”
May, concludes, “It was a great experience to be on the sofa with Bill and Sian and a real accomplishment for ramsac to be called on for its expertise by the nation’s flagship early morning news programme.”
