Cybercrime remains one of the largest threats facing organisations today. Happily, most organisations recognise this as an issue and are going to great lengths to protect their organisations with firewalls, anti-virus solutions and security services. The problem, however, is often not the technology, the weak link in the chain is the people in an organisation. In fact, research shows that 90% of cybersecurity breaches involve human error. This is not to say employees are knowingly allowing breaches to occur, the vast majority are due to innocent mistakes, a lack of understanding and ultimately a lack of training.
What this means, is that as well as looking at the physical security of your data, you have to address the challenge of training every person that works for you or accesses your system, to ensure that you are equipping them to keep your data safe. The difficulty here, is that cybersecurity training can be a little dull, it often doesn’t engage employees and therefore isn’t memorable. Additionally, it can’t be done as a one off activity – a programme of training is essential in order to ensure that people are kept up to date with a rapidly changing threat landscape. We believe that 2 or 3 minutes of catchy reminder training every few weeks, is a brilliant way to ensure that people are constantly reminded of the need to be vigilant. We researched a range of cybersecurity awareness training programmes and concluded that the Mimecast Awareness Training was by far the most memorable and therefore effective. It makes employees an active part of your defence, instead of your biggest risk by:
Educators have shown that using humour with any age of student drives better performance, and this security training is built to make you chuckle. Each training module is anchored on a 2-3 minute video, written by real movie/TV comedy writers and acted by entertainment industry pros. In a few minutes per month, employees get a dose of knowledge, learning what to do through mini-sitcoms they won’t forget. The training videos are the foundation of a focused, complete, and effective system that imparts and reinforces crucial knowledge.
And to ensure that the investment in training is worthwhile, ramsac can add a wrap around management service, rolling out training and reporting back the statistics of who is completing the course regularly and who needs a gentle reminder.
