Video: A quick guide to understanding the Cloud

The cloud is often a complex and ambiguous term for businesses to understand. In this video, we hope to expand your knowledge of the subject and help you realise the true benefits of cloud migration.

Here at ramsac, we are often asked about the cloud, so we have created a video as a quick guide to what the cloud is and why an organisation might benefit from moving to the cloud.

What is the Cloud?

This is a question that has been asked many times; put simply, using the cloud means storing and accessing data, emails, programs and software via the internet instead of on your laptop or computer’s hard drive. Although the cloud may seem unfamiliar to some people, they have probably had experience of using the cloud for many years (maybe without even realising) some examples such as using Hotmail, online shopping or banking, all of these services are provided via the cloud.

Why might an organisation decide to move to the cloud?

  • You can access your data 24/7 from any device that has access to the internet, which has helped give rise to the mobile worker.
  • If the right cloud platform is chosen, your files/information are safe. You can back up all your important information in the cloud, so, if your device breaks down, you won’t lose valuable data.
  • You will always be on the latest version as you will benefit from automatic software updates.
  • Enables collaboration, as information can be shared instantly between colleagues and amongst teams from anywhere in the world.

It is important to recognise the cloud doesn’t suit all organisations, with some preferring to remain using on premises or a mix of cloud and on premises. Our advice to organisations is to make an informed decision before moving to the cloud, one size does not fit all. Here at ramsac we use the cloud to help solve business challenges and we make sure it is right for the organisation before recommending it.
